Riau
Kepulauan Riau is the result of the expansion of the new province of Riau province. The area is about 13.741 km².
Kepulauan Riau bordering Vietnam and Cambodia in the north; Malaysia and West Kalimantan
province in the east; province of Bangka Belitung and Jambi to the south;
Singapore, Malaysia and the Riau province in west. The capital of Kepulauan Riau is Tanjung Pinang.

There are many historic relics in Pulau Penyengat including Masjid Raya Sultan Riau
made from egg whites, the tombs of the kings, the tomb of national hero Raja
Ali Haji, Office palace and fortress complex in Bukit Kursi.

Dance
There are
some traditional dances in Kepulauan Riau such as, Tari
Tandak,Tari Persembahan, Tari Madah Gurindam Tanjung Pinang, Tari Tabal
Gempita, Tarian Gamelan. But there
is a famous dance in Kepulauan Riau called Tari Melemang. Tari Melemang has been around since the days of Kerajaan Bentan. This means that the
dance has been known since the 12th century. The dancers
were not ordinary people, but the ladies who came from around the palace. Since Kerajaan Bentan
collapsed, this dance is still survive and become folk dances.
